The Stunning Main Port of Monemvasia

Monemvasia, a beautiful town in the South-East of Greece, was liberated from Ottoman rule on July 23, 1821 by Tzannetakis Grigorakis who entered the town with his private army during the Greek War of Independence.

There are more than forty churches bruited among the narrow streets. One of these churches named Elkomenos Hristos is most important and largest. Other important churches, combining Byzantine and Venetian elements, are those of Agios Nikolaos and Panagia Myrtidiotissa.
